G U I L T Y Guilty, guilty I ain't got no alibi Guilty, guilty G U Y L T I Guilty, guilty I ain't got no reason why Let's go boys! Stole a pack of fags from the corner shop I bet you didn't think that I'd do that stuff! But I'm guilty... guilty! Had it out with my boss and he threw me off the job It ain't my fault he's a useless fucken yob I'm guilty... guilty Innocent 'til proven guilty, guilty! Haven't I seen your face before? Repeat offender, repeat offender, repeat offender Repeat offender, repeat offender, repeat offender Down in the tube station late one night Mods and rockers always looking for a fight Now I ain't the first one to pull a blade But I'm the last one to turn and run away Repeat offender, repeat offender, repeat offender Who wants a piece? Repeat offender, repeat offender, repeat offender Here come the police Standing in the dock's a familiar sight Bloke in a frock reading me my rights May come as a surprise for you all to learn But the judge and me are on first name terms I've heard it all before... Repeat offender, repeat offender, repeat offender "You're on the wrong track!" Repeat offender, repeat offender, repeat offender "Better not see you back..." Well, I've been through Borstal's where I learned a few tricks I scrapped with every morsel who gave me lip Now here's a little point that everybody's missed It's the system that made me a recidivist Repeat offender, repeat offender, repeat offender Caught with a knife Repeat offender, repeat offender, repeat offender The sentence is life Repeat offender, repeat offender, repeat offender You're doing time Repeat offender, repeat offender, repeat offender But what's the crime?

about

Shithney Events Limited is delighted to announce the reissue of the Biters' debut single "Guilty" b/w "Repeat Offender". Originally released in January 1978 through UK label Recidivist, the long out of print single has until now been possessed by only discriminating punk connoisseurs and record collectors alike. Remastered from the newly unearthed session tapes, the urgency and vitality of this classic 1977 recording has never been more apparent.

Part of the initial wave of UK punk, Biters showcase a sound representative of their time and circumstance. Despite it being their debut release, the band emerge on "Guilty" and "Repeat Offender" fully formed, their sound having been militantly honed in the squats and garages of their native Shithney, Northern England. Sole constant member Mick Teeth (vocals) appears here alongside classic-era members Richard Comparison (guitar), Pete Dogshit (bass), and the one-time showing of drummer Sentimental Steve (who was infamously given his pseudonym after being reduced to tears during his ousting).

While this classic recording didn't see chart success in its initial run, its influence can be found woven in the ripped and torn, gob splattered fabric of modern punk rock. The band's lyrical themes are still relevant in today's post-COVID landscape, and their fierce reputation on and off stage in their heyday has ensured their legacy remains as intact as their scandalous lifetime ban from the BBC. After decades of legal entanglement, failed negotiations, squabbles between ex-members and sparsely attended funerals, the original recordings of the Biters are once again allowed to see the light of day. As the Shithney fab four will tell you, "the proof is in the Yorkshire pudding".
